The Limeade Green Smoothie

Green SmoothiesOk, so today’s recipes for green smoothies are slightly different than my previous ones. These green smoothies are mostly made of leafy green vegetables. Instead of using fruit to sweeten the smoothie, I chose to use stevia, which is a natural sweetener. Don’t think that just because it doesn’t use fruit that these green smoothies are any less nutritious!

I usually drink these green smoothies 3-4 times a week, either for breakfast or as a late afternoon snack. It’s certainly much healthier than reaching for something in the vending machine at work. Because it includes limes and ice cubes, these green smoothies are incredibly refreshing, and they make a great pick me up when you need it. You’d never even know that it wasn’t sweetened with fruit.

If you’re interested in alkalizing your body, then these green smoothies are great for that too! Many people are concerned with balancing the alkaline levels in their body. For example, many people believe that if your body is too acidic, then it is more susceptible to colds and other types of diseases. In the past when I’ve been sick, I’ve incorporated these green smoothies into my diet more often, and I truly believe that they’ve helped me recover more quickly.

To make these green smoothies, here are the ingredients that you are going to need to have:

  • 1/2 English cucumber, sliced
  • 1/2 avocado
  • 2 handfuls baby spinach
  • 3-4 limes, peeled (adjust to desired amount)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • stevia to taste [or honey, agave, or sweetener of choice]
  • 6-8 ice cubes

I know it seems like a lot of greenery, but don’t be scared! To make these green smoothies, just add the ingredients to your blender, one at a time, and blend them together on high or until they have reached a smooth, creamy consistency. If you think that your green smoothies are too thick, you can add a small amount of water to thin it out.

Once all of your ingredients are blended together, pour it into a large glass and enjoy! This recipe will make about 2 cups of green smoothies, so if you don’t drink it all at once, you can package the rest in the fridge until you’re ready to enjoy it! I personally guarantee that you will love it! Leave me a comment and let me know what your thoughts are!
