Sweet and Spicy Love Potion Raw Green Smoothie

Carrots, ginger, and cinnamon combine in this raw green smoothie that I like to refer to as my love potion. Carrots are rich in nutrients, and ginger and cinnamon are two Love Potion Smoothiespices that promote a healthy heart. A handful of spinach adds a huge nutrient boost and a great way to sneak in leafy greens.  Spinach has a bad reputation for being not-so-tasty. Tossed into a raw green smoothie, even the most finicky of palettes are satisfied. My Sweet and Spicy Love Potion Raw Green Smoothie almost tastes like a slice of carrot cake, without the guilt.

In a twist from the typical raw green smoothie recipe, this one relies on raw almond milk to meld the flavors of the carrot, ginger, and cinnamon. Raw almond milk is a brilliant addition to any raw green smoothie. I admit, it takes a little extra preparation, but it is worth it. Incorporating almonds in my diet helps me to defend against heart disease. The flavorful nuts are loaded with monounsaturated fatty acids and antioxidants that women need for heart health. They also help with maintaining healthy cholesterol levels. Among other health benefits, almonds stabilize blood sugar levels to minimize the risk of diabetes.

Try Making Your Own Raw Almond Milk!

Using my recipe for Raw Almond Milk for any raw green smoothie recipe will add a great flavor and a heaping bonus of nutrients.  Plan in advance, because it takes about ten hours to prepare the almonds. All you need is almonds and water. Whole vanilla bean or vanilla extract and Medjool dates are optional.

To make raw almond milk, soak one cup of almonds in several inches of water. Let the almonds soak overnight; eight to ten hours. Drain almonds, then place in blender with three cups of water.  For a creamy and naturally sweetened raw almond milk, add  up to three chopped Medjool dates and one whole vanilla bean (or 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract.) Blend the almonds, water, dates and vanilla.  Using a nut milk bag over a bowl, pour the almond mixture into the bag over the bowl. Gently squeeze out the liquid into the bowl. Rinse the blender, return the liquid almond milk to the blender. Add a dash of cinnamon and sea salt; blend well. Raw Almond milk can keep in the refrigerator for up to three days.
