Red Carpet Ready Chia Spiked Raw Green Smoothie
Do you remember chia pets? The ceramic heads that grew sprouts defined a generation. Unlikely as it seemed at the time, chia has the star power to maintain its fame throughout the decades. Following in the footsteps of many Hollywood starlets, chia has reinvented itself from just a fad in the ’80s, to a modern day superstar in the kitchen. Chia seeds have extended their fifteen minutes of fame by highlighting their nutritional value, thus earning them the coveted title known as a superfood. Therefore, many of the svelte bodies that have graced the red carpet owe their physique to a diet that incorporates chia seeds (and raw green smoothies!)
About Chia Seeds…
So here’s what I’ve learned about the chia seed: according to history, ancient Aztecs and Mayans relied on chia seeds as their main source of nutrition. So if you believe the folklore, the word “chia” means strength. Hence, theses nutrient dense seeds give a strong boost of energy courtesy of its high fiber content. Chia seeds also add a healthy helping of antioxidants and and omega fatty acids to any raw green smoothie recipe. When I want to add a touch of nutty flavor to my raw green smoothies, I toss in a sprinkling of chia seeds to the recipe. Chia seeds have a mild nutty flavor that adds a layer of flavor dimension to traditional my raw green smoothie recipe ingredients.
What are the benefits of adding chia seeds to a raw green smoothie recipe? Beyond being rich in antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids, chia seeds are also a great source of vitamins and minerals. These tiny seeds are rich in iron — great for boosting the immune system, staving off fatigue, and minimizing bouts of insomnia. Not to mention they aid in digestion. Therefore, this is what made them an ideal ingredient for my Red Carpet Ready Chia Spiked Raw Green Smoothie recipe. This blend of mint, basil, cucumber, celery, spinach, pear, and chia help me lose the bloat and look red carpet (and bikini) ready.
