Green Smoothies With Raisins
I know what you are thinking. Raisins? In a green smoothie? Just bear with me here for a minute. The appearance of raisins can be kind of off putting. They’re dark in color, and their skin is wrinkled. Putting their appearance aside, raisins surprisingly have a number of health benefits to offer.
For example, raisins can provide you with a great source of energy throughout your day. They are loaded with natural sugars, including fructose and glucose. They are beneficial to your immune system, and they also promote the absorption of different vitamins and nutrients within your body.
Two other health benefits of raisins include aiding in digestion and enhancing bone health. Once you eat them, the fibers in raisins absorb water, and they swell, which produces a laxative effect on your body. These same fibers are also pretty adept at cleaning out your digestive tract. In terms of bone health, raisins offer a great source of calcium, which, as we all know, leads to strong bones and teeth. They are also thought to protect the body against the effects of osteoporosis.
So, are you ready to try raisins in your green smoothies? Here’s a great little recipe to get you started! The ingredients that you’ll need to have include:
- 2 tablespoons raisins
- 2 tablespoons ground flax
- 1 banana
- 1 handful Kale (or spinach, if you’re new to green smoothies. Spinach is milder tasting than kale.)
- 1 tablespoon peanut butter
- 1 tablespoon Agave Nectar
- 1 cup almond milk
- 5 ice cubes
Start off preparing these green smoothies by adding the raisins and the flax to your blender and blending them together until they are coarse. Next, add the remaining ingredients and blend them together until smooth. You can adjust the amount of ice cubes that you add depending upon whether you want your smoothie to be thicker or thinner.
