Green SmoothiesIf you would like to enjoy a sinfully delicious treat without the associated guilt, then we have the green smoothies you have been looking for! These green smoothies with peanut butter and cacao powder make an excellent dessert option without any additional sugar. As an added bonus, this green smoothie vegan friendly!

Unlike other green smoothies, this one is actually layered. It’s not too terribly difficult to make, and it looks absolutely gorgeous! One of the best parts of this smoothie is that you can actually taste the flavor changes as you work through each layer in the smoothie. These green smoothies are also great for kids! This smoothie is an ideal source of antioxidants, and each serving contains roughly 4.5 grams of protein.

This particular recipe is going to make two servings of this smoothie, but you can easily double or triple the ingredients if you need to make more. Because it is so healthy, it can also be used as a meal replacement if you are on a diet. If you’d like to boost the calcium levels of the smoothie, try throwing in a handful of baby spinach or your favorite leafy green vegetables. However, if you’re just going to be using this for a treat, skip the leafy green vegetables just this once.

Ingredients

Here are the ingredients that you’re going to need to make these green smoothies:

Chocolate Layer Ingredients:

  •  2 medium bananas, peeled
  •  2 tablespoons cacao powder
  •  1 small pear
  •  1 teaspoon raw honey or other sweetener
  •  1 ounce of filtered water
  •  1/2 teaspoon mesquite powder (optional)

Peanut Butter Layer Ingredients:

  •  2 medium bananas, peeled
  •  1 tablespoon all natural peanut butter (or almond butter)
  •  2 ounces of filtered water

You can begin preparing these green smoothies by adding the liquids to your blender. Go ahead and add in all of the chocolate layer ingredients. Blend them together on high for 30-60 seconds. Pour 1/3 of the mixture into the first glass, add a second 1/3 to the second glass, and set the remaining 1/3 off to the side.

Next, place all of your peanut butter layer ingredients into the blender and blend them together until they are also creamy. Once blended, use a spoon to gently dollop a layer of the peanut butter ingredients on top of the chocolate layer in each glass. You don’t want to pour the peanut butter in too fast, or it will mix the layers together, ruining the appearance of the smoothie.

For the final step, add another layer of chocolate ingredients on top of the peanut butter layer. Garnish with an extra sprinkle of cacao powder and enjoy!
