Green Smoothie With Figs
Figs are the not the first ingredient that you usually think of when you are making a green smoothie, but they are actually a great base for a smoothie. Figs have a mild flavor that blends well with other types of fruit, like apples, peaches, and bananas. In general, it is recommended that you do not blend figs with pineapple or other berries or you run the risk of losing the delicate flavor of figs in your green smoothie.
When you use figs in your green smoothie, you will be providing your body with a great source of calcium, B Vitamins, and Vitamins C, E, and K. Figs also contain small amounts of calcium, iron, copper, and magnesium. Figs can be tossed into your blender whole, or you can cut them into small pieces when you are making a green smoothie.
- 2 bananas, peeled
- 3 fresh figs
- 2 handfuls of fresh baby spinach or other leafy green
- 4-6 ounces of purified water
Each of these ingredients should be added to your blender and blended together thoroughly. If you do not like bananas, then you can accent the flavors of figs in your green smoothie with strawberries, nectarines, or peaches as a substitute.
