Green Smoothie Recipes With Nopales

Green Smoothie RecipesRecently, I met a new friend, Anna, at a birthday party I attended, and we just happen to start talking about green smoothie recipes. As it turns out, Anna is green smoothie aficionado, and she shared a great recipe with for detoxification.

These green smoothie recipes have nopales as one of its main ingredients. If you aren’t familiar with this fruit (I wasn’t!), it is native to the mountains of Mexico. After researching the fruit a little bit, I found out that is has some amazing nutritional benefits to offer. For example, it has very high levels of Vitamin C, B, and A. Nopales also offer a great source of dietary fiber, which can be great for regulating your digestive system. Also, recent medical studies have shown that nopales has been proven effective in treating inflammation, lowering cholesterol, and treating diabetes.

Naturally, I had to try out these green smoothie recipes with nopales. I actually like the taste quite a lot. I’ve noticed that, after drinking it every day for a week, that my digestive system has become more regular, and I’ve noticed an increase in my energy levels.

To try out this smoothie for yourself, here is the list of ingredients that you’ll need to have on hand:

  • ½ cup of nopal (cleaned, with the spines removed)
  • ½ of a peeled and chopped cucumber
  • The juice of 1 whole lime
  • 1 cup of purified water

When you aren’t using it, the nopal should be stored in your freezer in Ziploc bags. When you are ready to make these green smoothie recipes, each of these ingredients should be added to your blender one at a time and blended together until smooth. If you want your smoothie to be less thick, add a little more water until its reached the right consistency.

Nopales have a naturally sweet taste to them, but if you want your green smoothie to be even sweeter, then you can add a natural sweetener, like agave nectar or organic maple syrup, to taste.

This recipe is designed to make two cups of green smoothie, but you can easily double the ingredients if you want to make more. Nopales is an unusual choice for fruit when it comes to making green smoothie recipes, so please drop me a line in the comments section below and let me know what you think of it. I hope you like it as much as I do. Enjoy!
