Energy Boosting Green Smoothie with Avocado, Kale and Apples

Starting your day off nutritionally correct with this Energy Boosting Green Smoothie is one of the best things you can do for your body and your mind. Not only are smoothies easy to make and easy to consume, you can add ingredients to your liking in order to achieve a taste you adore.

Avocados are one of Nature’s most popular Superfoods.  Believe it or not, they are actually carbohydrates loaded with healthy fats and contain more potassium than bananas!  A single serving of 3 ounces features vitamins K, folate, vitamin C, vitamin B5, vitamin B6 and vitamin E. Avocados are a cholesterol-free food as well as an excellent source of fiber.

Kale is a super green, and is even more nutritious than spinach! Incorporating kale into your daily diet helps to aid in healthy digestion, reduces your risk of heart disease, supports healthy skin, hair and bones and even improves blood glucose levels in diabetics.

And it’s really true that an apple a day can keep the doctor away! That’s because there are a wealth of health benefits from eating a single apple. Apples contain phytonutrients and antioxidants that can reduce your risk of cancer, lower hypertension, reduce symptoms of diabetes and even reduce your chances of heart disease. Apples may also help reduce your risk of developing dementia.

Coconut water, often referred to as nature’s sports drink, is extremely high in potassium.   Potassium is a big factor in relieving dehydration and is often used to treat a variety of conditions from hangovers to kidney stones!

Sometimes I opt for almond milk when I’m in the mood for a creamier smoothie, or I add a frozen banana for a more milkshake consistency. Bananas also add a bit of natural sweetener if the greens are a little bitter for your tastes. For a nutty taste and a boost of protein, add a few tablespoons of chopped pecans or almonds. You can even add cinnamon and vanilla extract for a dessert-like taste. Ingredients:

½ an avocado

4 kale leaves with the stems removed

½ an apple

1 handful of spinach

1 cup of coconut water

4 to 5 fresh mint leaves

 

Directions:

1. First, place all of the ingredients in a blend and blend them until smooth.

2. On an extra hot day you can add a couple ice cubes to cool it down a little either before or after you blend.
